A FICTION BOOK BY A UKRAINIAN VETERAN, FILLED WITH BLACK HUMOR ABOUT WAR: “IN EASTERN EUROPE THEY LOVE TO DIE”

A book by a Ukrainian veteran has been published, filled with black humor about the war: “In Eastern Europe They Love to Die.” This is a fiction book in which the events unfold not in Ukraine, although parallels can be traced, but in an alternative universe. The main attention is focused not on combat operations, but on servicemen — their characters, thoughts, motivations, and personal lives.

“I tried to describe a more universal image of war and the people in it, not limited to our context. To show the drama and comedy of life,” says the author, Oleg Miheev.

In 2020, a civil war is raging in Poland between communists and democrats, supported by the Eastern and Western military blocs. After many years, everyone has become accustomed to war. A young boy from Eastern Poland realizes the abomination of the regime and flees to the democratic side. Dreams of an ideal society in Western Poland are shattered by reality, forcing him to survive during the war, watching the decline of the country and the morality of the people.

The book was written for almost 5 years and was published in 2025 by the publishing house Lira-K. The author promises to donate 100% of the profits to the army.
